I am introducing this new blog on my site. Rather than just posting articles on the homepage, I will pick out some recent articles which seem interesting. They might appear in the scientific journals or popular press. Whenever possible I will try to include a link to the original publication. I hope it will provoke some questions, comments and conversation. If anyone has an article which they wish to discuss, please feel free to post it.
The first article has to do with an eyelash growth product. For over a year we have used MD Lash Factor, distributed by Procyte. It is extremely effective. It began as a whim for my wife. When she began to receive unsolicited compliments, we knew there was something going on. She continues to use the product and has been known to find the need to trim her eyelashes when they begin to brush against her sunglasses! We have ordered Latisse, described below.

New Eyelash-lengthening Drug Approved

Latisse, a drug used for eyelash lengthening, has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Bimatoprost is the main compound in the product that enables lashes to grow longer and darker. Other eyelash lengthening products have been unsuccessful, such as Jan Marini Skin Research’s Age Intervention Eyelash. The FDA claimed the product’s containment of bimatoprost caused patients to have swollen eyes; Latisse contains a much smaller amount of bimatoprost. Latisse is manufactured by Allergan and costs $120, available with a physician’s prescription. The eyelash lengthening drug, which lasts two to four months, has been deemed a solution to hypotrichosis or lack of hair growth. While physicians say that Latisse could be useful for promoting hair growth in both eyebrows and the scalp, Allergan notes that the company has not explored other uses for the drug.
