Kybella (Double chin treatment) in Baltimore

Excess fat below the jaw line, also known as a “double chin,” is a common problem for both men and women.

This unsightly facial feature has many causes, including weight gain, genetics and aging. But no matter what the cause may be, it is a source of embarrassment or frustration for many people.

If you are bothered by the appearance of bulging fat underneath the chin, Dr. Ronald Schuster, a respected plastic surgeon in Baltimore, has good news for you. Kybella is a non-surgical injectable treatment recently approved by the FDA to permanently eliminate the dreaded double chin — without surgery.

About Kybella

Kybella is a facial injectable treatment made of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that targets and destroys fat cells. While most injectables add volume to the face, Kybella actually reduces fat in the neck area, eliminating the unattractive “double chin” effect.

Kybella works by breaking down fat cells in the neck area, which are then naturally absorbed by the body. Because the fat cells are destroyed for good, the results of Kybella treatment are considered to be permanent. Any future weight gain will be more evenly distributed throughout the face and neck area.

Procedure Details

Treatment with Kybella is quick and virtually painless; Dr. Schuster can perform one treatment in about 15 minutes. To start, Dr. Schuster will inject a non-painful anesthetic to numb the neck and jaw area. He will then inject the Kybella solution into the targeted areas. Once the treatment is over, you will see some redness and swelling in the treatment area. This typically subsides after a couple of days. The treatment requires very little downtime; most patients are able to return to their normal routine the next day.

Kybella treatment typically consists of two to four sessions of injections administered six to eight weeks apart. Depending on the amount of fat under the chin, Dr. Schuster may recommend up to six sessions.

You may be a suitable candidate for Kybella if you:

  • Have excess fat in the neck (i.e., a double chin)
  • Are 18 years or older
