Juvéderm In Baltimore

What Is Juvéderm?

Juvéderm is a soft tissue filler that contains hyaluronic acid in a gel base. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance that the body makes to maintain hydration in important structures like the eyes and the skin. In the form of one of several Juvéderm products, hyaluronic acid is inserted into a localized area to achieve skin-plumping, wrinkle-reducing effects. Several Juvéderm products have been developed over the years. These include Juvéderm XC, Voluma XC, Volbella XC, Vollure XC, Ultra XC, and Ultra Plus XC. Each product is made with precise characteristics to achieve the specified results. For example, Juvéderm Voluma XC is a more structural soft tissue filler that is often used to augment the cheeks. Because Voluma XC is denser and more structural, it would not be used on a more delicate area such as the lips.

How Does It Work?

When a provider injects Juvéderm, they literally fill in lines and creases with a smooth gel. The manufacturing process for Juvéderm involves patented Hylacross technology, which achieves the exact consistency that each filler calls for to achieve its intended benefits. While the gel can immediately plump the skin, the hyaluronic acid in Juvéderm products extends the results of treatment by binding to water molecules. Once tethered, the hyaluronic acid and water molecules stay bound in place for up to two years. Over time, the hyaluronic acid naturally breaks down. Because it is a naturally-occurring substance, the body metabolizes and eliminates hyaluronic acid without side effects.

What Is The Difference Between Juvéderm & Botox?

Juvéderm and Botox are both injectables and are both incredibly popular. However, they are not at all the same in the way they work. Botox is a neuromodulator. As such, it reduces wrinkles and creases that are created by dynamic facial movements. Examples include crow's feet and frown lines. Botox is injected into superficial muscle tissue. There, it binds to receptors that receive nerve signals to contract the muscle. When Botox is actively bound to the receptors, they cannot receive the necessary signals and, as a result, the muscle relaxes from its chronic tension. Relaxed muscle equals smooth skin. Juvéderm is a soft tissue filler. The product is inserted into the subcutaneous tissue to augment volume in areas where atrophy has occurred with age or where volume is naturally lower. Examples of problems treated with Juvéderm include nasolabial folds, undereye bags, vertical lip lines, flat cheeks, and thin lips.

How Long Do The Results Last?

Regardless of the Juvéderm formula that is selected for a given concern, results are only temporary. The lifespan of a Juvéderm product depends somewhat on the area into which it is injected, the consistency of the filler, and on the way your body breaks down the hyaluronic acid gel. Softer, lighter fillers like those used for lip enhancement may last six to 12 months. Denser fillers for the cheeks and other structural areas may last up to two years. When you visit us for Juvéderm treatment, your provider can discuss their expected results based on the exact product you choose.

Are There Any Side Effects Or Risks Associated With Juvéderm?

The most common side effects that occur after Juvéderm injections include redness, swelling, itching, minor discomfort, tenderness, or small lumps. These typically subside within two to four weeks. Significant side effects and complications are very rare. However, patients should be aware of the risks so they may understand the necessity to receive injectable treatments only from a properly trained, properly licensed physician or nurse. In the wrong hands, there is a chance that injections may be unintentionally inserted into a blood vessel. This kind of accidental injection can lead to complications such as prolonged or permanent scarring, severe swelling, and vision abnormalities. Generally, dermal fillers like Juvéderm are considered extremely safe and effective. Patients simply need to choose their provider carefully.
