Prior to stay-at-home orders caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, cosmetic surgery patients planned to take 1-4 weeks off from their jobs to recover from a procedure. Oftentimes, these patients felt ready to perform their jobs sooner, but took more time off because of visible bruising and swelling, as well as the inconvenience of getting around. Fast forward to today, we see that now may be the perfect time to plan your cosmetic procedure: You will be able to return to work much sooner if you are working remotely, as soon as a couple of days after surgery.
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ronald Schuster takes all the time necessary to make sure you know how to plan for your cosmetic procedure. In addition to discussing your candidacy for a certain surgery during your consultation, he also goes over what you will need to plan for in terms of downtime from work, exercise, social activities and household chores. To arrange your consultation in the Baltimore area, please call our team at 410-902-9800.
Time Off from Work after Common Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
Below are some of our most popular cosmetic procedures and the timing at which most people return to work under normal circumstances, when remote work is not available:
Breast augmentation: 1 week
Breast lift: 1-2 weeks
Breast reduction: 2 weeks
Male breast reduction: 2 days-1 week
Tummy tuck: 2-3 weeks
Liposuction: A few days-1 week
Facelift: 2 weeks
Brow lift: 1-2 weeks
Eyelid surgery: 1 week
It is quite possible that you can start working sooner than these traditional timelines. Take a few days off to rest, and then return to computer work from home. You won’t have to drive, navigate through the office building or show any signs of your recovery to your co-workers. Even if you have Zoom meetings, swelling and bruising from breast and body procedures will be completely out of frame. Take advantage of the “camera off” setting if you’ve had a facial procedure.
