Things to Know about Rhinoplasty

A before-and-after image of a man's face after rhinoplasty performed by Dr. Ronald Schuster in Baltimore Year after year, rhinoplasty is one of the most popular procedures in America. Rhinoplasty is a surgical re-shaping of the nose that involves minimal incisions and effective results. If you’ve been considering it, your next step should be to schedule a consultation with Dr. Ronald Schuster. He will listen to your goals and expectations, provide clear information about the procedure, and ultimately empower you to decide if rhinoplasty is right for you. In the meantime, increase your knowledge of rhinoplasty with the following list of things to know:

It was the top procedure in 2020.

There were more than 352,000 nose re-shaping procedures performed last year, making it the top procedure of 2020! This fact is evidence of the continuing popularity and relevance of this facial surgery that can dramatically improve the harmony and balance of a person’s facial features. A little bit of re-shaping brings everything into proportion, making it possible for you to feel the most confident.

The results are lasting, but rhinoplasty cannot stop age-related changes.

As with all the skin on your body, the skin on your nose gradually descends and sags the older you get. Although rhinoplasty cannot stop the effects of time and gravity, it does yield long-lasting results. Your nose will continue to have the shape achieved with rhinoplasty, even though you may notice subtle changes in the skin many years after surgery.

The nose is re-shaped via incisions on the inside or outside of your nose.

An incision may be made across the narrow strip of skin separating your nostrils, or incisions may be made inside the nostrils. All of the re-shaping is accomplished with these incisions, and, once they heal, the scars left behind are either completely hidden inside the nose, or, when made externally, the scar is virtually impossible for other people to notice given its location.

You will be looking at the most finalized result about 1 year after surgery.

Much of the swelling and bruising will dissipate after about 3 weeks, when your results will start looking very good. The healing process continues for another several months to 1 year, when all swelling has subsided, and the final shape and structure are apparent.
