25 Things I’ve Learned About Plastic Surgery – #5 – It’s not about the money

Getting your Money’s Worth in Cosmetic Surgery

“Dr. Schuster, you know why I like coming to you? It’s because it’s not about the money. You tell me the truth about what I need or don’t need”.

This comment was a little bit eye-opening to me. I never really considered doing anything else but doing my best with my recommendations for patients. Choosing to have cosmetic procedures can be a difficult decision for patients. I appreciate the opportunity to help and do not take for granted their willingness to spend their money on services I can give.

Sometimes it works out in their favor when I can achieve their goals with very affordable options. Other times I am the bearer of bad news when it takes a lot more product or surgery to get the job done. This may come as a disappointing surprise to the patient, but I might as well be upfront with them in the beginning. There’s no sense in giving patients expectations that can’t be met because of limitations of what they can’t afford. And then there are those patients (at least once a week) that think they need something and simply “don’t”. They generally leave the office very happy that they feel good about themselves AND didn’t have to spend any money!

So whether it’s fillers like Restylane, Juvederm or non-surgical cosmetic procedures like Coolsculpting and Kybella you can count on me giving you an honest opinion. Same with surgery like facelifts, rhinoplasty, tummy tucks and liposuction. I feel blessed to have the success I think that I have earned. Why change a good thing? Hope to see you soon.
