Do you diet and exercise regularly, yet can’t seem to zip up your favorite pair of skinny jeans or fit into a crisp button-down shirt? It’s probably not your clothes dryer conspiring against you and shrinking your garments. Certain areas of the body can accumulate fat that refuses to respond to diet and exercise. Carrying even a few extra pounds can make you uncomfortable in your clothing and self-conscious of your appearance.
Years ago, the only surgical solution to diet- and exercise-resistant fat was conventional liposuction. But Dr. Ronald Schuster, one of Baltimore’s finest plastic surgeons, is pleased to offer a state-of-the-art body sculpting treatment to help his patients battle the bulge.
Ultrasonic-assisted liposuction with the VASER system enables Dr. Schuster to get rid of unwanted fat reduced downtime and discomfort associated with conventional liposuction.
What Is VASER?
VASER utilizes ultrasound energy for minimally-invasive aesthetic body contouring that yields dramatic results with less pain and downtime of traditional liposuction.
How Is It Used?
VASER uses ultrasound waves to break down targeted body fat cells while leaving the surrounding tissues intact. The fat is then gently removed from the body through a small tube inserted just underneath the skin. The result is slimmer, smoother body contours and an eye-catching physique.
VASER can successfully treat many areas of the body; it is equally effective in larger areas with substantial fat as it is in smaller, more delicate areas. It can even be used to treat several areas in a single appointment.
The following areas can be sculpted with VASER:
- Abdomen
- “Love handles”
- Hips
- Thighs
- Buttocks
- Back
- Arms
- Knees
- Calves
- Ankles
- Male breasts
- Chin
- Neck
What Does VASER Treatment Involve?
The first step of VASER treatment is to inject a tumescent saline solution into the targeted area to numb it and constrict the blood vessels. Next, a small probe delivers ultrasound energy to break up the fat. Then, the separated fat is removed through a thin cannula using gentle suction. Because the fat has already been loosened up by the ultrasonic energy, it takes less effort to be removed. Therefore, there is less trauma, less bruising and less pain than when using only traditional liposuction. The entire process is very gentle on the body’s tissues yet still noticeably slims the selected area.
VASER liposuction is performed as an outpatient procedure with either general anesthesia or IV sedation. Many patients see results almost immediately after treatment. It can take three to four months for the final results to appear.
