To date more than 4 million CoolSculpting procedures have been performed worldwide to eliminate unwanted body and neck fat with virtually no pain. Dr. Ronald Schuster is pleased to offer CoolSculpting to Baltimore-area body contouring patients that want a slimmer and sexier shape without surgery.

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-surgical, non-invasive body contouring treatment that uses cryolipolysis technology to destroy unwanted fat without disturbing the skin or surrounding tissue.

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

During a CoolSculpting treatment session, vacuum applicators pull the fatty tissue into the applicator cup, which delivers controlled cooling to targeted pockets of stubborn fat. When subjected to such cold temperatures, the fat cells crystalize (i.e., freeze) and then die. It usually takes about an hour per application area, and the total treatment time depends on how many areas are to be treated. Over the next few weeks, the body naturally processes and eliminates the dead fat cells.

Some CoolSculpting patients need more than one treatment to see the desired results. Dr. Schuster can create an individualized treatment plan tailored to each patient’s specific goals. The treatment experience is not invasive; patients can read, check email, watch a movie or even nap during these treatments. There is no downtime after CoolSculpting treatment; patients can immediately resume their everyday activities.

CoolSculpting does not work on everyone; about 75 percent of people see results.

How Long Do CoolSculpting Results Last?

Most patients usually start to see improvement in the treated area as soon as three weeks after treatment. The most noticeable results should appear after two months and continue to improve for four to six months.

CoolSculpting results are long-lasting. Once the fat cells have been eliminated from the body, they do not return. However, Dr. Schuster recommends maintaining a healthy weight to prolong the results. CoolSculpting patients usually find that they are more motivated after treatment to eat healthy and work out regularly.

Are There Side Effects?

There are no major side effects associated with CoolSculpting and complications are very rare. Patients may experience minor discomfort for the first 10 minutes of treatment, and then the area becomes numb. The treatment areas can be a bit sore for a week. There is numbness that lasts for a couple of weeks.

Are There Risks?

In rare cases, the fat in the targeted area can get worse with CoolSculpting treatment. Also, there is the risk that CoolSculpting might not work for the patient.

Am I a Candidate for CoolSculpting?

You may be a good candidate for CoolSculpting treatment if you are in good health and maintain a stable weight, yet struggle with unwanted bulges of fat on the:

  • abdomen
  • inner or outer thighs
  • flanks
  • back or bra-strap area
  • area under the buttocks
  • submental area (under the chin)
  • arms

You should not have CoolSculpting if you are overweight or have cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria.

Why Should I Consider CoolSculpting Instead of other Body Contouring Procedures?

CoolSculpting is a great option for anyone that wants to contour a particular area of the body without surgery, needles, anesthesia or recovery downtime. Treatment is FDA-approved for safety, and clinically proven to be effective.
